Herniated Discs and Pinched Nerves

Our Office utilizes Class IV Laser Therapy and spinal decompression therapy to address disc herniations.

What is a Herniated Disc?
Discs are located between each vertebra and function as cushioning that absorbs forces and allows for movement of the spine.  By nature, the disc is made up of strong cartilage called annular fibers that enclose a jelly like substance called the nucleus in the center of the disc.  A herniation is when the jelly like substance pushes through the outside annular fibers and they usually push on the nerves as they exit the spine causing a great deal of pain and discomfort.

What are the Symptoms of a Herniated Disc?

  • Pain in the buttock and down the leg like a deep ache
  • Numbness and Tingling in the buttock and down your leg
  • Leaning to one side or forward and can't stand straight up

Can It Be Treated Non-Surgically?
Most often it can be treated non-surgically.  We utilize chiropractic and corrective spinal exercise in order to restore proper function.  Many other forms of therapy such as cold therapy, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, bracing, and steroid injection can be utilized to decrease pain and make the patient comfortable while the condition can be resolved. Our Office utilizes Class IV Laser Therapy and spinal decompression therapy to address disc herniations.  When these therapies are combined the patient can experience dramatic pain relief and healing.  If you suffer from this condition and think that you may be a candidate then be sure to read our detailed section about these treatments and take advantage of the two complimentary treatment to see if it is right for you.
